SATURDAY, April 2 Reducing cancer patients’ stress may benefit their health, a new study finds.
Researchers investigated whether chronic stress associated with cancer diagnosis accelerated shortening of telomeres. These structures on the ends of chromosomes protect the chromosome from deteriorating, breaking apart or joining with other chromosomes, which can lead to mutations.
The investigators also wanted to see if counseling sessions designed to lower stress and improve quality of life affected telomere length.
The study included 31 women with cervical cancer who were randomly assigned to one of two groups.

Now the world knows that Geraldine. A. Ferraro was suffering from multiple myeloma that eventually took her life on the 26th of March 2011. The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation has reacted to the loss of their precious member, Geraldine A. Ferraro and issued a statement saying a few words about the powerful woman. Multiple Myeloma is an incurable blood cancer and Geraldine A. ferraro died while batting the complications of the disease for 12 years.

SATURDAY, March 26 As many college students head south for spring break, there are some things moms and dads can do to ease their worries, an expert says.
Levester Johnson, vice president of student affairs at Butler University in Indianapolis, said parents need to make sure their child:
- Travels with a group, because there is safety in numbers.
- Has an itinerary that provides information about where they will be staying.
- Is prepared for the unexpected, by carrying their health insurance card and a credit card that can be used if they have to deal with a financial emergency.
“It’s OK for parents and family members to ask what their [child's] plan is,” Johnson said in a university news release.

Study Participants Riddled With Metal Particles
Hundreds of tiny particles of the heavy metal tungsten were left in the chest muscles and breast tissue of about 30 U.S. breast cancer patients who took part in a study of new radiation technique.
The particles came from a device called the Axxent FlexiShield Mini, which was used to shield healthy tissue from radiation. The device has since been recalled, The New York Times reported.
It’s not known if the tungsten particles pose a threat to the women’s health because little research has been done on its long-term effects in the body.
