I know that at the beginning of each road you need to have good information and knowledge to reach the goal that you have in mind and this does not exclude meditation. I remember when I first discovered meditation I felt very excited and I wanted to start it as soon as possible. Probably you are in the same situation right now, having the desire but without any knowledge about this art. In this post I will try to help you with all the knowledge I know about how to meditate for beginners.

First of all, you need to set your own goal for which you want to start meditating. For example, some people meditate because they feel stressed and depressed and they want to eliminate those unwanted feelings. Others meditate for a better life in general, others for material things and others for the supreme happiness (Nirvana). Until now, only The Buddha was able to reach that state so it`s a little bit difficult for an average person to achieve that state.

Whatever you have in mind, I will try to indicate some steps which you will need to follow to start your meditation session. The first step is to find a quiet place where you can rest your thoughts. A quiet room inside your home, a bench in the park where there is not a lot of noise or maybe outside your backyard, it doesn`t matter as long as it`s quiet. Second, try to put yourself in a comfortable position, so that you will feel no stress or pressure in none of your body parts. The ideal position for meditation is the “Lotus position” shown in the adjoining picture. But for most people it’s very hard to sit in this position from the first time, so if you can practice meditation in this position good for you.

After you found the most comfortable position for you, slowly close your eyes and start to bring awareness to your breath. Begin the inhale and exhale slowly, feel the air entering and exiting from your body. If your mind starts to wonder, bring it back to your breath. Inhale deeply and focus on the movement. Do the action slowly and naturally, don`t rush anything. Feel the energy of your body as you do this. After this, try to focus on the reason for which you started the meditation session. If you meditate for peace for example, visualize a world in which peace rules. From the closest person in your life until the last individual in the world, the peace is transmitted. Let your mind wonder beyond the boundaries, until it reaches every corner of the world. See your own world. I am sure that you will feel happy with your achievements.

So now you know how to meditate, because these are the best information that you will find for beginners. All you need to do now is to put in application what you have read here.
